The Men’s Hockey competition will be held from 5th to 21st of August where 12 teams will go head to head to claim the biggest honor in the sporting world, which is an Olympic gold. The twelve teams are divided into two pools with six teams each and here we look at the 5 teams that can claim gold at the Rio Olympics –
Australia
There is no one who doubts Australia’s team Credentials for the Olympic gold and why not after all they have been the dominant force in the hockey world rampaging their opponents with ease. They will be the team to beat which is blessed with the champions. They are the World champions and another good look destined for the men in yellow.
Netherlands
Netherlands has suddenly risen to the occasion to claim the gold, but will have to surpass the mighty Germans and Australia if they want to have a serious contention to claim gold but this will not be a walk in the park. They will probably hoping to change their medal color from sliver to gold and their recent performances are the clear reflection of their credentials.
Germany
It was a long time ago when Germany used to lead the hockey world but for the last two years they have become a second fiddle team to Australia and in recent time even Netherlands have piped them, a team that used to fear them but that doesn’t mean that they are out of the race to win gold as they have everything that takes to be an hockey champion.

Great Britain
The Great Britain’s chances to claim gold are limited but still their challenge cannot be ignored as they have continuously posed challenge for all the other giants. The team will be looking to repeat the feat that was achieved in 1988 where Great Britain won the gold for Last time.
India
Though it’s very hard to see India as a Gold medal contender but they were once a force to reckon with in the hockey world in their golden days. Olympics have witnessed many golden runs and who knows this may be the golden year for the Indian team.
