Alberto Del Rio officially released from the WWE

We had been reporting a lot about Del Rio’s strained relationship with the WWE over the past few days. Now, the cat is out of the bag. It is official, Alberto Del Rio has been officially released of his contractual obligations with the WWE and is expected to take independent bookings. He did address a press conference, where he spoke about his time with the WWE, the aspects that led him to make this decision. As of this writing, he is no longer a part of the WWE, and the WWE have copyrights with the name.

His real life girlfriend, Paige is still with the WWE and though there have been numerous websites that have published that she has quit, we prefer to wait and watch as to how the story unfolds.

Coming back to Del Rio, the Mexican superstar had issues with his booking since his comeback. Although he did talk about his displeasure, the company officials did not do much about it. They put him in badly scripted angles one after the other. It is ironic however, that he made his return to the company in 2015 by defeating John Cena, and also had his last match against John Cena, which he ended up losing on one of the episodes heading into Summerslam.

Del Rio will be making his post WWE appearance for the World Association of Wrestling, a promotion owned by Paige’s father, Ricky Knight. He would be wrestling for the promotion on the 16th and 17th of September in Norwich, England. What Culture recently revealed that Del Rio would be wrestling for the promotion next week.

At the conference he addressed from Mexico City, he said that he was not happy with the way his second run with the company shaped out and that his passion for wrestling was beginning to wane. He added that he is not looking to sign anywhere, and is looking forward to his retirement and feels that he would retire sometime in the next two years.

We at playcaper wish Del Rio the best!
