Indian Spin Sensation once again regained the top spot for Bowler’s in Test cricket after his impressive figures in second inning in the First Test where he took 7 wickets. The win in the first test was a memorable one for Ashwin as he achieved his career’s best figures outside the subcontinent and his all round performance earned him the Man of the Match award too.
Yasir Shah was the one who displaced Ashwin from the top spot after his 10 wickets haul but he was wayward with the ball in the Manchester Test conceding 266 runs and taking a single wicket which saw him drop to the fifth spot.
The Ranking as they Stand
Though Ashwin has the first spot in hand but that doesn’t mean that he can just relax as he is chased by England’s very own James Anderson who is just three points behind Ashwin following his brilliant bowling figures in the England win. Stuart Broad comes at the third spot and South African fast bowler Dale Steyn grabs the fourth spot followed by Yasir Shah who suffered a drop of 46 points.
Chris Woakes after his back to back brilliant bowling figures both in Lords and Old Trafford test earns a 10 point jump to the 23rd spot. Umesh Yadav was another Indian who impressed everyone in the first test and was also awarded with the 24th rank.
Back to the place where he belong
Ashwin was the top seeded Test bowler in the end of 2015, a feat that he achieved with his continues effort. He has changed himself from being just a dangerous bowler to the most lethal spinner in the world. 2015 was definitely Ashwin’s year as he truly stepped up for the team. He has also claimed the number one spot in the Test cricket all rounders ranking and is looking all set to dominate the proceedings according to his current form.
Can he break the Overseas Jinx
Though Ashwin is widely known for his over the top bowling figures but his figures outside the Sub continent are rather ordinary. After starting the West Indies tour on high, the Indian Ace will be thinking of changing his overseas figures.
