After a long wait of 4 year the city of Rio is finally ready to host the biggest sporting event of all, the Olympics which will kick-start with a blockbuster opening ceremony that has been labeled the grandest ever according to the preparations.
The ceremony will be directed by Fernando Meirelles, Andrucha Waddington and Daniela Thomas, the same trio that directed the handover segment at London Olympics.
The ceremony is labeled as the sexiest ever with performances that will reflect the true culture of Brazil with over 6000 volunteers involved in various performances. The most notable among them will be the samba dance performances by the native Brazilian dancer. The main attraction of this show will be top model and actress Gisele Bundchen who will star in the ceremony entering the iconic Maracana Stadium on the tune of a famous Brazilian song played by Paolo Jobin.
The event will also feature some popular Brazilian music icons like Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Paulinho da Viola and Luiz Melodia. The supermodels Adriana and Alessandra Ambrosio will showcase the image of Brazilian beauties in front of the whole world and will be accompanied by Ryan Seacrest who will host the ceremony.
Pele to light the Olympic Flame
Brazil and football legend Pele will get the prestigious honor of lighting the Olympic flame which will mark the official beginning of the game. The tournament will kick-start from 5th of August and the extravaganza will continue till 21st of August when there will be the closing ceremony.
Parade by the players
The teams will parade after the completion of ceremony with the flag bearer holding his country’s flag. There will be a sum close to 12,000 athletes that will participate in the tournament and will represent over 200 plus countries from all over the world. Greece will be the first nation in the parade according to the rituals and then will be followed by the other countries in the Alphabetic order with the Indian contingent on the 95th number of the parade.
Opening Ceremony Date, Time And Venue
The opening ceremony will start at 20:00 BRT (local time) on August 5 in Rio’s Maracana Stadium, meaning a India start time at 4:30am on August 6.
