Just the other day we had reported that the Dudley Boyz were out of the WWE and they got to leave on their own terms. We have a bit of inside scoop about the current situation with the Dudley Boyz.
PWInsider is now reporting that the tag team veterans and the WWE had a verbal agreement in place for a return for another year. They had also been building the angle of having the Dudleyz break up and have Bubba Ray and D-Von pursue singles careers in the WWE to help the newer talent hone their skills. For starters, Bubba Ray had a successful singles career with TNA while D-Von did not really have much of a single’s career. However, Bubba is currently 45 years old, while D-Von was 44 years old.
This makes them one of the most experienced wrestlers on the roster besides the Undertaker.
It seems that there were two ideas, one to have them set up a return angle as a tag team or have them broken up. However, the Dudleyz opted out of the contract and chose to leave the WWE on their own terms. While this definitely came as a shocker to the wrestling world, it might have been quite daunting of a task to be on the road for 300 days a year at their age and physical conditions. They could choose to wrestle on the independent circuit, make more money and most importantly do it on a much relaxed schedule on their own terms. TNA seems to be a bad option, given that they are facing severe financial crisis. The Dudleyz would definitely not want to be a part of a sinking ship.
It would have been interesting to see the Dudleyz have one final run with the tag titles. They did help elevate the Usos and the New Day as a legitimate tag team. Imagine how much relevance the tag titles would have become had the 20 time world tag champs held the titles.
We ourselves are unable to get over the fact that they left us high and dry when we could have seen matches like The Dudleyz vs Jeri-KO or the Dudleyz vs Sami Zayn and Neville.
