NXT Takeover airs live from the Air Canada Center, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Bobby Rhoode vs Tye Dillinger: Rhoode has his usual choir entrance. There is a lot of back and forth action in the initial moments of the match. Tye takes control of the match with a big back body drop on Rhoode. Tye continues with a series of offense with chops and punches in the corner.
Rhoode eventually comes back with offense with chops and elbows. He hits a neck breaker for a two count following it up with knee drops. Tye comes back with a flying clothesline and stomps Rhoode in the corner. He goes for a knee to the face, but Rhoode avoids and rolls out to ring side.
Rhoode connects with a spine buster for a two count. Tye goes for a series of quick roll ups and connects with a couple of super kicks for a two count. They exchange punches and elbows. Tye connects with the sharp shooter, but Rhoode gets to the ropes. Rhoode throws Tye into the corner and hits a DDT for the win.
The Authors of Pain vs TM-61: Paul Ellering is going to be hanging on top of the ring in a shark cage. There’s a lot of back and forth action initially till the action goes to the outside. Thorne climbs the supporting cage structure and hits a somersault on the heels. Miller tags himself in and cleans house.
He connects with suplexes on each of the members of Authors of Pain, following it up with a flying forearm. TM-61 members hit hurricanrana in succession, following it up with suicide dives. Miller blocks a chain shot and the Authors of Pain hit the last chapter for the win.
They are the winners of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Tournament Trophy. Post-match, William Regal and Triple H are out to present the Authors of Pain with the tag team tournament trophy.
Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa vs the Revival: This is a 2 out of 3 falls and the NXT tag team titles are on for this match.
The Revival is in control of the match till Gargano gives the hot tag to Ciampa and clears house with drop kicks in tandem on both the members of Revival. Revival comes back with a double leg drop on Ciampa for a two count. Gargano gets the tag and clears house.
He connects with a bulldog/clothesline combination and follows it up with a spring board attempting for a spear, but Dash and Dawson catch him and turn into the Shatter Machine for a three count, and the Revival is up one fall in the match.
Revival continues to hold control of the match for the next few minutes, only till Gargano is able to convert a flying kick into a tornado DDT.
The Revival connects with the Heart attack on Gargano for a two count. Gargano escapes a super plex attempt and tags in Ciampa, who takes control of the match with a knee to the face of Dawson only for a two count.
He successfully gets the three count after hitting a double super kick on Dawson along with Gargano. The two teams are now tied at one fall at a piece. Gargano kicks Dawson in the head, following it up with a spring board DDT for a near fall. Dawson throws Ciampa outside. Dawson uses a tag title to protect himself from a kick from Gargano.
Dawson locks in the figure four on Gargano, who reaches to the ropes. Dawson tags in Wilder, who accidentally hits a super kick on his own partner after Gargano ducks. DIY hits a double team Code breaker on Dawson. Dash breaks up the pin attempt. More near falls follow till Gargano gets Dash in the Crippler cross face. At the same time, Ciampa gets Dawson in the arm bar, prompting both members of the Revival to tap out at the same time.
Asuka vs Mickie James: Former WWE Women’s champion, Mickie James makes her in ring comeback to the WWE in the match. The NXT Women’s championship is on the line for this match.
This is going to be a very close match to call, with both the women being very competitive in the ring. Following some quick competitive action, Mickie connects with a snap mare and follows it up with a sliding drop kick, sending Asuka to the outside. Asuka bumps Mickie, but Mickie comes back with a kick, and a hurricanrana off the apron.
Yup! That’s a veteran there! Asuka seems to be taken aback by the competition in front of her. Asuka retaliates with a german suplex on the outside. She follows it up with kicks, but Mickie blocks and locks in the Boston Crab.
Asuka gets to the ropes. Mickie connects with a neck breaker and flying clotheslines, following it up with a back body drop after Asuka missed a back body of her own. Mickie connects with a splash off the top for a near fall. Asuka locks in the cross arm bar, but Mickie gets to the ropes quickly and comes back with a spinning heel kick only for a two count. Asuka tries to lock in the Asuka lock, but Mickie fights out. Asuka eventually locks in the Cross Face chicken wing, prompting Mickie to tap out.
It is time for the main event of the night, the match for the NXT Championship.
Samoa Joe vs Shinsuke Nakamura: Joe and Nakamura show off their Japanese skills by trading kicks. Nakamura gets the upper hand and follows it up with a knee drop.
Nakamura follows it up with a big boot, sending Joe into the barricade. Joe comes back with a running elbow, followed by a running enziguri. Nakamura comes back with some offense, but Joe catches him with a rock bottom.
He follows it up with an elbow drop for a two count. Joe locks in the Boston Crab and follows it up with a suicide dive to the outside. Nakamura comes back with kicks, flying elbow for a two count. Joe retaliates with a running Senton and gets Nakamura in the STF and a crossface. Nakamura gets out, but Joe drops him again with a power slam.
Nakamura goes to the top, but Joe gets him with a spinning power slam. He follows it up with an enziguri. Nakamura responds with kicks of his own. He connects with a flying knee off the middle rope. Joe goes for a german suplex, but Nakamura avoids it and hits a german suplex of his own.
Nakamura misses with a flying knee. Joe goes for the muscle buster, but Nakamura gets out and connects with a running knee to the face for a two count. He goes for another but Joe hits a german suplex, following it up with a full Nelson suplex and a straight jacket suplex, only to get a two count.
Nakamura successfully hits the running knee finally. He goes for another running knee to the head, but Joe blocks it with a kick more like a low blow and gets away with it as the referee does not see it. (Typical). Joe slams Nakamura on to the ring steps, and hits the muscle buster on Nakamura for the win.
