Imagine the match. Kevin Owens, the universal champion squaring off against the undefeated Brock Lesnar! The mere thought gives goosebumps! By the looks of it, it seems that this may be one of the plans the WWE has heading into the Royal Rumble.
Lesnar has no other matches apart from his re match against Orton in a non-televised live event from Chicago on the 24th of this month. After that he is expected to take time off, and be back in time for the Royal Rumble. Lesnar is one such entity that whoever he faces off with, the stakes keep getting higher. And although Lesnar has been teasing a match against Goldberg at the grandest stage of them all, we never know till something concrete works out. Obviously, Goldberg would not want to return for a match to lose on the grandest stage of them all.
Having Lesnar being beaten by an upcoming superstar like Owens, Rollins or even Reigns for that matter would make perfect business sense, to promote the superstar as the next big thing.
Owens was scheduled to feud with Balor, before Balor’s injury. And with Balor’s rehab going longer than expected, it might not be till WrestleMania that we see Balor back. Owens going up against Lesnar would make perfect sense, as the brief interaction they had earlier this year made the ratings sky rocket. Seth is expected to feud with Triple H, while Reigns goes after the U.S. Title. Sami Zayn is expected to continue his feud with Chris Jericho, and Jericho will obviously put over Zayn like only he can. That leaves Owens without an opponent.
Whether this happens or not remains to be seen, but the match on paper itself seems to be worth a million dollars. It might make sense to have Lesnar lose to Owens and then go up against Goldberg, to ‘reclaim his lost touch’. Either ways, we cannot help but be excited at the prospect. As of this writing, we request our readers to treat this news as a rumor, and plans may change at the last minute in the WWE as seen on multiple occasions.
