The 25th July 2016 episode of RAW is the first RAW after the recent draft. The event is live from the CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. As a peek into the expectations for the show, we have the announcers table set at the entrance of the ramp similar to the seating arrangement of Jim Ross and Jerry ‘the King’ Lawler in the mid 2000’s.
The new RAW sign is seen along with minor set changes. Red ropes for the ring! The show talks about having Finn Balor making his main roster tonight! It’s his 35th birthday today, talk about the timing to have a fruitful beginning!
The show opens up with Michael Cole welcoming us to RAW along with his new broadcast team. The focus shifts to Mick Foley and Stephanie, who as expected are not very excited with Battleground results from a RAW’s standpoint. Stephanie calls Roman Reigns a loser and that RAW needs its own Heavyweight Champion! She proposes two sets of fatal four way matches to set up a match with the winner of the clashes to face Seth Rollins at Summerslam for the new ‘WWE Universal Championship Belt’. Foley calls out Charlotte for her loss against the Boss at Battleground and announces that Charlotte defends her Women’s title against Sasha Banks tonight!
Thoughts: This is a hell of a way to kick things off! We have always wanted the Heavyweight title to return! With the influx of talent through the draft, expect great matches!
Fatal 4 way 1: Finn Balor vs Kevin Owens vs Rusev vs Cesaro: A great match as expected! Match starts off with the heels working as a team against the baby faces. Things slowly get heated between the heels and they work individually. Highlight of the match is a four man suplex by Rusev off the turnbuckle. Balor drops Owens with the Slingblade and the double foot stamp on Rusev for the win!
Thoughts: Great way to introduce Finn to the main roster! Excellent match to kick things off!
Nia Jax vs Britt Baker: Very short match, with Nia pipped as the favorite to win. Nia Jax wins with a leg drop and picks up the win!
