Just when we thought that the WWE would book AJ Styles to cost the match to Team SmackDown Live at the Survivor Series pay per view, WWE made a swerve and booked the match to have Randy and Bray Wyatt come out strong and be the last men standing for team SmackDown Live.
So that brings us to the question we have been waiting for answers for. Will AJ Styles have his match against the Undertaker either at the Royal Rumble or WrestleMania?
As of this writing, AJ Styles is booked to defend his title against Dean Ambrose in a TLC match at the next pay per view WWE if offering, TLC. After that, he has an impending match against James Ellsworth.
So what does this mean for AJ Styles? Will there be a match for him against Taker and will we see a buildup to the feud immediately after the TLC pay per view. We have the inside scoop of news from Dave Meltzer, who spoke about the issue on the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Meltzer claimed that there has been a lot of discussion about putting Taker in a match against Styles. However, he needed that there may be a timing issue settling the match up for January.
Taker recently underwent hip surgery and is still in rehab recovering. That is the reason we have not seen Taker in any form of physical confrontation. Meltzer also noted that it is possible that Taker would be medically cleared to wrestle before the January 29th pay per view, Royal Rumble, coming in from Taker’s home state of Texas.
As of this writing, there has been no mention of the two having a match, but one thing is for certain. Taker is expected to work a match at WrestleMania and since the Royal Rumble scheduled to take place from Texas, we can expect the Deadman to make an appearance at the event, given that Royal Rumble returns to Texas after 20 years and the fact that the WWE wants this year’s event to be the biggest ever.
