This week’s episode of SmackDown Live comes in from the SAP Centre in San Jose, CA. This is the follow up episode from No Mercy. Speaking of follow up, the wrestling world is abuzz since yesterday. For starters, Paul Heyman made a one off appearance on RAW and challenged Bill Goldberg to a match against his client, Brock Lesnar.
Why is this a big news? Almost immediately after the segment aired, Bill Goldberg took to his Twitter account to say that he was booking his flight to fly in to next week’s RAW to address Paul Heyman’s challenge! This is huge news! Will we see Bill Goldberg finally back in the WWE after a 12 year hiatus? Stay tuned to find out more.
This week’s episode of SmackDown Live opens with the new Intercontinental champion, Dolph Ziggler. He holds up his title and says ‘We did it’. Indeed we did! Just as he is about to continue, The Miz appears along with his wife, Maryse to interrupt. Miz mocks Ziggler’s win and says he needs to take a moment to mourn the death of the Intercontinental Championship. Ziggler gets in Miz’s face and Miz brings out the two members of the Spirit squad. It is announced that Ziggler will square off against his former team mates with the Miz on commentary.
Dolph Ziggler vs the Spirit squad: Ziggler starts off with kicking Kenny and clotheslines him. Miz distracts Ziggler, allowing Kenny to gain offense on Ziggler. Ziggler retaliates with a DDT on both the members of the squad, following it up with a stinger splash. The Spirit squad double teams on Ziggler and hit a flying clothesline for a two count. Kenny tries to go for a power bomb, but Ziggler wriggles out and hits the super kick on Kenny for the win.
Almost immediately after the match, Miz attacks Ziggler and hits the skull crushing finale on Ziggler. Spirit squad continue to beat down on Ziggler. Rhino and Heath Slater come to make the save and even the odds. New tag team number one contenders? May be, if these guys stick around.
